Landrum Railroad Depot Renovation
Landrum, SC
The turn of the century Landrum depot holds a prominent position on Highway 176 in Landrum, SC. This renovation restored the depot to an appearance in keeping with its original design. Used as a public meeting space, the depot had fallen into disrepair. A windowless meeting room was filled with light by the introduction of large windows in the original freight door locations. The freight doors, discovered under a layer of vinyl siding, were restored and displayed in the meeting room. The meeting room, new accessible toilets, a catering kitchen, and lobby/museum space are the primary components. A broad entrance porch will serve as a stage for performances, with seating in a grassed lawn. The curved structure recalls early train platform design. Although not constructed, it was planned as a covered outdoor space for concert seating, the farmers’ market, etc.
